Aratiles Cultivation

This little fruit is a member of the Malvaceae family and goes by several names: aratiles, muntingia calabura, jamaican cherry, and Panama berry. Although it has spread from its Neotropical homeland, this tree can be found in many tropical and subtropical areas across the globe. When ripe, the cherry-sized fruit turns a vibrant crimson or orange color.
You may taste the sweet and somewhat sour flavor of aratiles fruit. Fresh is best, but it can also be used to make jams, jellies, and drinks. Both the fruit and the tree's therapeutic qualities contribute to its high value. Because of its purported anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial characteristics, traditional medicine makes use of the plant's many parts, including its leaves.
