Why can't Katie stay out of trouble? It's not like she makes stupid decisions. Well, maybe a few here and there, but for the most part, she totally uses good judgment. So, when strange and a little scary things start to happen - they are fairly easy to ignore because her mind is on prom, and it will be the best night of her life. She has no idea, in her perfect world, that her life is in imminent danger.
