Om Daughters of Single-Parent Families
This body of work is unique in its scope as it is the first of its kind to attempt to portray "Single-parent" families in a positive light and to explore the development of self from this vantage point. The author takes the reader for a trip down memory lane as she explores the historical views of the "family" and psychology both of which helped to frame the present day perception of the "family" and the perception of self. The reader will delve into the intimate lives of six women raised in a single parent household (mother only) and learn about their journey to form close relationships with men. They will learn that the development of self for these women is not based on a single experience but a myriad of experiences that shape who they are. The reader will come to learn that there is not a single definition of "family" and the many varieties they will learn about are every bit as valid and relevant.
