Om Effect of Different Spacing on Varieties of Brinjal
Vegetables are occupy an important place in diversification of agriculture and have played a vital role in food and nutritional security of ever-growing population of our large vegetarian society. Brinjal or Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a member of the Solanaceae family and having the chromosome number is 2n= 24. Eggplant is good source of anti-oxidants. Optimum plant spacing ensures proper growth and development of plant resulting maximum yield of crop and economic use of land. Lesser competition between plants and larger amount of available nutrients and soil moisture for vigorous growth of fruit parameters in widely space plants as compare to closer spacing. Lack of widely adopted high yielding variety, lack of short duration superior varieties to fit in different farming systems, non-availability of seed of improved high yielding variety, limited extension services support, unorganized marketing and lack of organizational set up for research and development programmes are the major constrains in the production scenario of brinjal.
