First published in 1911, these memoirs by Mancunian social reformer Charles Rowley (1839-1933) present a portrait of inner-city life during the later nineteenth century. The book covers his concerted efforts to bring art and culture to deprived areas through progressive initiatives such as the Ancoats Brotherhood.
