Explore the fundamental questions of life in The McGuffin Quest. Katie White and Harry Jinx, lifelong friends, set out on an adventure to the Kingdom of Wisconsin in search of the elusive McGuffin. Is it an English teacher who inspires Katie, or is the quest itself the true inspiration? As they journey through the idyllic rolling hills of Baraboo, Wisconsin, the world around them transforms into a whimsical and thought-provoking universe of bizarre tales. Along the way, they confront the age-old dichotomy of pattern and chaos, the nature of connection, and the meaning of literature, from poetry to Moby Dick to Mother Goose. Does it all connect to life? Does anything? With surprises at every turn, The McGuffin Quest is a journey of discovery that will leave you pondering long after the final page.

In the highly anticipated sequel to her award-winning memoir, Daring to Date Again (She Writes Press, 2014), The Sweet Pain of Being Alive is the second in Ann Anderson Evans's memoir trilogy. It follows her heartbreaking journey as she seeks to uncover why her beloved husband killed himself. As her agonizing search deepens, her views on gender, sex, marriage, right, wrong, good, and bad start to shift."Ann Anderson Evans is a fearless, fierce, divine, and wise woman who has dared to take a huge bite from Eve's apple and has the guts to share the insights, fights, and delights she has met head-on."- M.J. McDermott, Emmy award-winning broadcaster."This book reveals a widow's gut-wrenching process of scrutiny. In the aftermath of her beloved's suicide, Ann Anderson Evans asks the questions all suicide survivors must ask: Why? Was his life really so bad? How could I have saved him? Futilely searching for answers to this inexplicable tragedy, Ann has beautifully, painfully dissected her relationship, her husband's life, and his enduring struggles with depression and transgenderism. Ann is left to find acceptance and peace on her own. This is compelling reading."- Leslie Hilburn Fabian, Author of My Husband's a Woman Now: A Shared Journey of Transition and Love."'People are not always, maybe not ever, what they seem,' writes Ann Anderson Evans. She thought she knew her husband Terry. What she didn't know - the secret he only partially shared and his anguish about not claiming his authentic self - led him to suicide. 'This book is stark, unflinching, intensely personal, and powerfully written. I loved the book, and I'm grateful to Ann Anderson Evans for having the courage to write it.'"- Joan Price, author of Sex After Grief: Navigating Your Sexuality After Losing Your Beloved.

The author tells his story of being born under the Gemini star sign, living a life defined by an unremitting struggle between the conflicting twins of "Yes, I can" and "No, you can't!" It describes a struggle of early childhood uncertainty, being hidden as a child, of unanswered questions and preferring to be in the background during his childhood through to his middle years. Generally surrendering to the opinions of others, while holding back on his own views, was the hallmark of his being.Hesitating to take on challenges was a familiar pattern, as was the likelihood of yielding to mediocracy, the easy way out. Tilting the balance away from "No you can't" to "Yes, I can ... and I will" was the major factor in the author's life towards holding leadership positions in every sphere of his adult public life, from committee secretary early in his professional career to becoming Cape Town's first citizen. From the mayoralty to ministry, standing up for justice and the dignity of life and being able to make a difference was the path he chose; mediocracy simply was not good enough.

Can Love and Talents Survive Opposite Political and Economic Environments? This author believes that it is important to narrate how he has been affected by living under opposing political and economic systems. This book shows how the command economy differs from the market economy through the example of a highly qualified Cuban economist and scholar who has lived for decades in developing and developed market economy and command economy countries.Another very important and interesting aspect of this book is that it establishes the talents of this man's two big loves' -- his mother and his second wife -- as important and influential contributors in developing his behavior in the politico-socio-economic environment in which his life has so far taken place. This book is divided into four sections: CHAPTER I contains an analytic summary of chaotic situations in Cuba and the United States, in which he had personally participated. CHAPTER II is a comparison of the political, social, and economic advantages and disadvantages existing between the market and the command economies, and the social democracy according to his international scholarly and personal experience, in developing and developed countries, especially during the last half of the twentieth and the first two decades of the twenty-first centuries. CHAPTER III explains in depth what is meant by each one of this author's seven talents: reading and writing, pedagogy, tenacity, learning foreign languages, traveling around the world, singing, and being empathetic. CHAPTER IV explains how these talents are related to those of the two women who had considerably influenced the performance of his life.

Vengeance Is Mine is the story of the Calloway brothers, William and Samuel. As young boys, they idolized their father, who served his country in the Marine Corps. Thomas Calloway was a standout student and football player for the Crimson of Harvard University. He became a distinguished lawyer and married the love of his life. He provided a sturdy foundation for his two boys to follow in his footsteps. William is brilliant like his father, with an I.Q. of 170, while Samuel is hot-tempered like his mom but loyal to a fault. William is the older brother, attending Harvard and studying law just like his father.Upon graduation from college, Samuel is now old enough to enlist, and the boys do so together. They see plenty of combat, and along the way, they are both changed by the brutality of war. True horror is what one human being can do to another. When their tour of duty is over, William decides he wants to make a difference in the world and forgoes his law practice to submit his application to the FBI. His military background, high I.Q., and law degree make him a great fit for the bureau. Samuel is content to open up an exotic knife shop in his hometown of Warm Springs, Virginia. It doesn't take William long to realize that red tape and politics get in the way of actual justice. Frustrated, suspended, and near losing his job, he has a talk with Samuel one day about how justice would work in their world. Samuel is reluctant to get involved at first but agrees to keep an eye on a suspect who has eluded the law so far, a suspect William knows is guilty but can't prove. Samuel follows the suspect and catches him in the act of committing a horrible crime against an innocent child. What follows is one man's definition of justice.

In my 10 plus years of teaching, I have found that students struggle with two major challenges in writing a quality capstone paper. First, they have difficulty creating a rigorous analytical framework. Too often, the papers tend to be more descriptive in nature, which means that the final policy recommendation may be flawed. This book attempts to fill that gap by discussing in detail the various components of the framework as well as their interdependence. Second, most public policy books are theoretical or conceptual, but it is difficult for students to make the transition from understanding the concepts to performing the actual quantification of the metrics so necessary to do the analysis. This book provides detailed instructions on how to do the quantification.

Word Up displays the realities in life, depicting the signs of the times through headline events as well as what happens in the home, on the job, or in social gatherings. Life can be a struggle. There are pros and cons in the ways that we deal with what is happening around us and, most importantly, what happens inside of us. Consider the following questions:Are we appropriately handling the challenges that can adversely impact our lives? How can we ensure that we are leaning and depending on something that is greater than ourselves - our connection with God?How can we build our relationship with God to ensure that we are on the right track and have ceased playing guessing games with important areas of our life?Word Up forces you to think with clarity and then gives you an opportunity to do something about your reaction to the bare facts. Word Up helps you to face head-on to the reality of a situation; it does not allow you to be timid, gloss over it, or just do nothing. Rather, Word Up gives you a choice: do nothing and watch things get worse or do something and bring about the change you want and deserve.Learn how to deal with situations rather than just quoting the Bible as though knowing and doing are the same. Real change in your life requires faith, and faith without action is null and void. Word Up requires action. If you really want transformative change in your life, read a topic that describes your situation. Begin to identify the deep change that is irreversible in nature, a change that you have only hoped for, but have not achieved. There is healing in Word Up as you read the Word of God that is so deeply embedded in real change. Allow God to work with you as you read this life changing analogy.
