Ariana has been battling unhappiness for most of her life. Ostensively, things were fine. She had a great job and a pleasant enough life until she met a stranger and life took on a completely different turn. This book is a wondrous discovery of the past with a vision so clear it's astonishing. Readers are taken back to England's Regency period-a forgotten time where Ariana is transported. She is faced with daunting enemies, jealousy, the unraveling of long-buried secrets, and threats to her very life. But all this is of no matter, for the predominant strain is the magical personality of a man and a bond so strong and so powerful that it becomes impossible to get over it in the past life or, indeed, in any other.

  • - The Adaptation and Adoption of Karanga Religiosity in the Zion Christian Church of Samuel Mutendi in Zimbabwe
    av Vengesai Chimininge
    179,-

Myths and rituals in Zion Christian Church (ZCC) of Samuel Mutendi in Zimbabwe is a book that comes as a result of my thesis from the University of South Africa (UNISA). The two religious phenomena, myths and rituals, are presented in the light of the Zionists' own testimonies. It is argued in this book that a lot of beliefs and practices in the ZCC are adapted and adopted from Karanga religiosity and lifestyle. The book explained the critical role played by myths and rituals in the origins and development of the ZCC of Samuel Mutendi in Zimbabwe. As we read throughout this book, we are going to see that myths and rituals are treated as two sides of the same coin in the ZCC worldview. The relationship between the two is thus inseparable. Among the members of ZCC, myths and rituals grow pari passu, that is, at the same time. In this case, we can see that in the ZCC ecclesiastical worldview, myths and rituals are of equal importance, not only in theory but also in practice. Indeed, they act as nectar that attracts a lot of people to join the ZCC since the two have a therapeutic value.

This is a contemporary book for everyone, but it is more relevant to those who wish to know why we say corruption is an enemy to the society, how it starts, what propels it, and what the society suffers as a result of corruption. It is not an over expectation for the workers to look up to their manager and the citizens to look up to the elected politicians for welfare projects because according to the book, the primary responsibility of democratic governments, especially in developing economies, is the protection of lives and properties of her citizens, providing welfare schemes and creating an enabling ground for her citizens to strive for their self-development. Corruption has rubbed us of all these. The citizens entrusted their collective will in the hands of the elected politicians believing that they will make the society a better place to live, but in return, we have a society tightly dotted with terrorists and politically motivated attacks on the innocent citizens. The country became difficult for an average man to survive in, leading to irregular migration even to less developing economies where, at least, they can be sure of security.

  • - Targeted Spelling Drill
    av Noeleen MC Eneaney

I am a primary school teacher of 30 years, with experience in mainstream education in the Republic of Ireland and England. Over half of that time has been spent working with children and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN). I have a B.Ed and an M.Ed , Level 2 NVQ in Support Users of IT, and I have been blessed with a curious and creative mind. This compilation began over 10 years ago when I was trying to come up with new ways of teaching the common/sight words or tricky words as they are sometimes termed, also known as Dolch/ Fry/ Hearn Lists. For the purpose of this book I have used a list compiled by Alan Sayles, representing half of the words that readers are ever likely to meet. Each page looks at the phonetic makeup, blending, shape and structure of each word, spelling, visual discrimination and context of each word. The word is reinforced up to 20 times on each page. My colleagues and I have used these worksheets for some years now and find them very useful. They include ideas from many schemes such as the National Literacy Strategy UK, Dyslexia Association Ireland, Units of Sound, Alan Sayles's Handbook, Culligan's Corewords, Boxes Font © Crossbow Education, ideas from courses with ICEP and INTO, colleagues in particular Maria Carolan and Orla Briscoe and the wonderful pupils that I have had the pleasure of teaching. Some pupils will learn these words really quickly while others find it difficult to retain them e.g. pupils: with SEN, learning English as another Language, or beginning readers. These sheets can be used by Classroom/SEN/EAL teachers or by parents who are home schooling or simply reinforcing reading and spelling. I have not tried to reinvent the wheel here, only to reassemble it in a slightly different way! I work closely with my Job Sharing partner, fellow SEN teachers, Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), classroom teachers and two Principals in supporting the inclusion of pupils with SEN in mainstream school. I have also worked with various Dyslexia groups, Adult Learning in Devon, private students, and have a City and Guilds qualification in IT. My current post is shared between two rural schools which I job share. I completed a Masters in Education in 2010 with the University of Ulster and have two documents published there.

  • - A Personal Experience
    av Earth Ray
    156

The author of this book has a lifelong experience in the church . The corruption & hypocrisy he has seen & heard of contradicts the Bible teachings in many ways . This book exposes some of the deeds , sayings & thoughts that the author came across . Some of the episodes expressed in this book will make many believers wonder about their relationships with the church & the clergy . It is not meant to deter people from the church , on the contrary it is meant to deter the clergy from abusing the church for their own ends . All of us are partly responsible for what is going on because we put our blind trust in the clergy without any questioning.Decadence , hypocrisy , corruption & sexual immorality is rife and in many instances it goes on unnoticed . No one expects the Clergy to be like the Apostles who met their ends in horrible ways to promote Christian teachings to the world , but we expect the clergy to hold the Apostles as their role model & to be exemplary to the laity in their way of life , christian teachings & values . It is time for someone to expose the bitter truth so that Christianity , the Church & the Clergy gain the higher ethical ground that Christ has sacrificed his life for.

Have you heard of Shakespeare? Can you name anything he wrote? Maybe you know Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet or King Lear. These were all plays performed at the theatre. But Shakespeare has a special way of writin, it was called iambic pentameter. This is a musical rhythm that stresses the second syllable, di-dum, di-dum, di-dum, di-dum. Every sentence in this book uses this rhythm. If you look carefully you may also notice the first letter of each word in a sentence is the same. This is called alliteration, another literary technique. This is a children's book but some of the vocabulary is not so easy, so adults reading this book can also improve their language skills. Every letter of the alphabet has a picture of an animal doing something. Enjoy the colourful illustrations, each one was hand painted by the artist Andy Starck.

In this collection, the author opens up to share his own reality, a reality that he suspects is owned in some way or other by us all. Here you will find a searing vulnerability delivered with the necessary courage it takes to lay one's soul as bare as the author does. The collection of writings in this book are not great theology, nor do they provide any answers to the deep questions of life and faith. They are not even necessarily good poetry but are simply the honest reflections of a simple single guy on life, faith, church, and God.

Never has the role of women in society been so convoluted as the Victorian era. From gracious to the grotesque, repressed to the risque, it would be an understatement to suggest that the Victorian was the embodiment of all that is meant to be pure. In this book, the author seeks to delve deeper into the minds of characters in Victorian literature to ascertain just how unstable and universal the issues of suppression the issues of secrets have on these characters.

Unfortunately, we witness human beings killing each other. A very upsetting and worrying situation, it is also strange that we do so yet claim to be the most supernatural creatures in this world. When we have things, we want more; when we do not have things, we complain because we do not have them. We do not usually know what we want because we are human beings. We know how valuable our loved ones are to us once they die because we are human beings. We believe in dreams more than we believe in our friends. We run away from each other when we have problems, but we smile and get together when we have no problems because we are human beings. We are more in love with money than with anything else because we are human beings. We always wait for help rather than proactively help others because we are human beings. This book tries to explain in simple terms how to be a good human being and become successful in life. This book is a tribute to the author's friend, who passed away from leukemia.

  • - This Is Who I Am
    av Rima Jbara

Does it matter what my name is? I am a woman. Does it matter what my religion is? I believe in God. Does it matter what country I come from? I live on earth.I am talking to you. Specifically, I am talking to your mind. Do you agree or disagree with all my philosophical, psychological, and logical thoughts? Some of my thoughts might probably be nonsense and illogical. Sometimes when I think profoundly about a matter, I often come to the conclusion that there is no universal definition for sense or logic and that they vary from one person to another. My thoughts are unsettling for most people and adequate for fewer people. My words can be enticing and eerie but detailed with metaphors you can abide by on the darkest yet most hopeful times. Read me. In this book, I have quite precisely changed the modus operandi in the writing of a novel.www.rima-jbara.com

  • - An Explorer's Tale
    av Geoff Higginbottom
    274,-

This book is based on the diaries of my ancestor, Edwin Higginbottom. His diaries were returned to my family following his death in 1873 at Gondokoro, Southern Sudan. At that time, he was chief engineer to the party led by Sir Samuel White Baker, who was attempting to eradicate the slave trade on the Nile River.Edwin's contribution to the expedition was immense. Aside from his role as chief engineer, he was considered by Baker as his second-in-command and was frequently left in charge when Baker was not present. In the early part of the expedition, Edwin was responsible for transporting huge cargoes up the Nile from Cairo, cargoes that not only included supplies but also two large and several small steamboats in kit form, which were to be reassembled later. At Korosko, the party had to leave the Nile in order to circumnavigate its cataracts, and the cargoes were ferried for thirteen days across the desert with the aid of 1,800 camels.Other than providing detailed descriptions of his experiences, the diaries also give an interesting insight on the politics of the region in the late nineteenth century. At that time, both the British and the Egyptians were attempting to expand their influence in the region whilst Africa was being carved up by the major Western powers.Baker, under instructions from the Egyptian government, annexed the region around Gondokoro, claiming that it was the best way of eroding the power of the slave traders. The global call for the abolition of slavery was strong, but in this instance, was it used as an excuse for backdoor colonisation? The party also struggled with the corruption that was rife in the Ottoman Empire at that time. Many of the Egyptian officials who were supposed to be helping them had a financial interest in maintaining the slave trade. On his return from Africa, Baker published his account of the expedition in his two-volume work, Ismailia. Edwin's diaries provide a very different angle to the same story. Here was a middle class product of South Manchester who was thrown into the world of the ruling elite. Frequently, he views Baker's style of leadership as being arrogant and overbearing, and he is often appalled at Baker's treatment of both freed slaves and lower-ranking members of the party. Edwin's loyalty to the expedition meant that the two men seldom clashed publicly, but his dissatisfaction is made very clear in his diaries.Edwin's premature death at the age of just thirty-one meant that he was never able to publish his own story. He was a man who Henry Morton Stanley once described as "a man whose intelligence and exertions have, upon several occasions, saved Sir Samuel Baker's expedition from imminent disasters"-one who was to remain anonymous to the world as a result. The aim of this work is to bring Edwin Higginbottom's name to a much wider audience in recognition of the huge contribution he made to Baker's expedition. My own personal aim is to find Edwin's grave at Gondokoro and, in doing so, to become the first member of his family to pay his or her respects at his last resting place.
