If growth had a colourWhat would it be?The whitewash of loveOr the deep blues of grief?Or buttery yellowsFrom when we're at peace?Would growth be inked out in blackFrom the rages it's seen?Maybe... perhaps growth is just green.A bit brown at the rootsAnd flowers in seasonPre-determined by themeOf God, loss or loveOr maybe all three.See I've been doing some thinkingAnd have come to believeThat growth isn't one colourBut a glorious medley.- TEE BAKERBark and Ink is a journey of words on growth. Baker reflects from the moment seeds are first sown into the earth and foundations are laid, to the far reaching roots of faith and love beneath the dark surface, before eventually blossoming into green shoots of realisation, new beginnings and hope. Readers are encouraged to accept the blunt and simple truth of it all, from the beat of a butterfly wing signalling new love, to the sour silence surrounding relationships we thought would never go wrong and we would hold onto forever. Each poem is preceded by a single key word and its dictionary definition, sometimes altered to give better personal understanding of the poet, thus inviting us to read between the lines. Whilst growth is always a beautiful process, Baker warns that "sometimes seeds are sown sick. Sometimes roots rot. And sometimes shoots never come to full bloom."
The book is a collection of essays written between May, 2016 and October, 2019, about the transformation of America, which has turned from a united nation to one more divided than ever. Some pundits predict that, if things don't change, another civil war could occur. Have we reached a point of no return? Hopefully, America is mature enough to learn from its mistakes and avoid further scars along its evolving history."Tiberiu Dianu is a specialist in law, politics, and post-communist societies... His latest book, entitled Trumplandia, is a welcome addition toward understanding current events, Washington's international policy, and the present American society; a society polarized and divided as it has not been since the Civil War... Mr. Dianu makes in-depth assessments of important events in today's America and achieves not only fine descriptions, but as an expert in the field, proves to have a "gut feeling" for them. For example, the author understands, and at the same time feels, the meaning of rising patriotism and nationalism as a shield against the not yet fully understood impact of globalization." NICHOLAS DIMA, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor and Research Associate, Nelson Institute, James Madison University, Virginia"For someone seeking to understand the rise of populist nationalism in the United States through its avatar, Donald Trump, one need look no further than Tiberiu Dianu's book, Trumplandia. ... Indeed, Trumplandia should be a welcome addition to any scholar, student or layman's library, especially in its international edition. If anyone loses sleep over its challenging assertions, then it will have been well worth it." ERNESTO MORALES HIZON, Ph.D. Candidate and former Fellow in American and Comparative Politics at Claremont Graduate University, LL.M. in International Legal Studies and former Fellow at American University, Washington, DC and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University, Fellow at Augsburg University; Member, Integrated Bar of the Philippines

People, Poker & Vegas is about a journey: a journey from a bookshop in the back streets of York to the neon of South Las Vegas Boulevard - the Strip. A 30 year journey from a small poker room in a Lancashire to the iconic casinos and poker rooms of Las Vegas. It narrates the author's anecdotes and events during this journey and the eccentric characters who have joined him on his travels: the rich and the poor; the happy and the sad; friends he has made and the occasional curiosity that has crossed his path. It is not a book on how to master poker, nor is it a tourists guide to Las Vegas but a collection of ad hoc and sometimes amusing stories on the mystifying game of poker told from a personal point of view. A small stakes player who has ground it out in the poker rooms of Las Vegas. All the people and events in the book are true, and on all occasions the author has tried to relate them to his own personal experiences of both poker and Las Vegas. If it brings the reader a better understanding of both of these two much misrepresented worlds and the people who inhabit them - then that is all the author asks.Mike Connah currently works at the University of Central Lancashire as an Academic Support Tutor for students with Special Needs. Mine Eyes Have Seen: The American Dream Collection is a book of poetry revealing the intricacies, contradictions and beauty in the American character. The collection begins with American Places and takes the reader through a series of glimpses into the impact the vast magnificence of the American landscape had on shaping the nation and people of the United States. The second section is called American People and explores the different facets of the diverse American culture. The reader feels the heartaches, despair and triumphs of a soldier, blue collar oil refinery workers, a young prostitute, middle class vacations and the business community. In the final section called American Soul the collection reveals the ethos of America as a beacon of hope to the world. The idea of a strong nation based on the freedom of individuals to choose and create their own lives is a symbol to the world of the hope and longing of the human spirit. The collection culminates in the title poem Mine Eyes Have Seen which reviews American history from the fifties through recent twenty-first century through the lens of one person''s experience. The collection is the second for poet Linda C. Thompson. Her first collection was entitled Life As We Know It and in the words of one critic "was a grands start for Thompson''s contribution to the canon of twenty-first-century women poets." In this new collection she extends her vision and talent to her native country - the United States of America. "I''ve always blended intellect and emotion in my writing. In this collection I wove history into the fabric of the verse as well." explained Thompson.
