When the Gods abandoned Eturnus, leaving behind magic as a gift to the humans who served them, the Coalition filled the vacuum created by the Gods' absence. Believing magic to be a curse from the Gods, the Coalition leaders began to eradicate and enslave those who bore any sign of the gift. This led to a long and grueling war for magical users' freedoms.
Decades after the war ends and the formation of a new government, Daux Deveraux excitedly awaits her Placement. She dreams of being Placed in the Special Operations division to defend magic users against the Coalition. Daux gets her wish but is left incredulous when the infamous Zima Angelov is assigned to her team of operatives.
Daux is reluctant to trust her new team, especially since Zima wants to see her fail at every turn. However, she quickly realizes she must rely on more than just herself when the unthinkable happens, and her loyalty is called into question. Daux must fight to prove her innocence, but when the odds are stacked against her, can Daux trust her teammates to help clear her name?
