A shapeshifting demon is bumping off Crimson Seal's biggest clients in gruesomely unpleasant ways. All of them seem to have links to the biggest anti-spectral organization in the city, which means they had politically powerful human friends and even more supernaturally powerful enemies.Tim Lovecraft knows this isn't going to be like any other case he's been assigned to since joining the Special Investigations Unit. Everyone is going to be watching his progress very closely - and certain unspeakable entities don't want him to solve it.In most other respects, Tim's life is the same. His semi-paranoid friend Stake is still working in security but is now running his own company like a private army prepping for the undead apocalypse. His interfering mother is still trying to set him up with psychics. And his police sergeant girlfriend Tabitha is too busy working her own cases to return his calls.Tim has also been assigned a trainee, a half-vampire who hates humans with a passion that borders on murderous.
