James Lane Allen and the Genteel Tradition

This is the first full-length biography of James Lane Allen (1849-1925), son of the Kentucky Bluegrass region, and a representative writer of the nineties. The biography is important because it illuminates and reveals a little-known personality. It also contains a significant discussion of the attitude of a later generation toward the Genteel Tradition represented by Allen.
