Om Life's Storms

Mid-April 1977 Sargent Chad Brown of the Nebraska State Patrol drove between Alliance and Chadron, Nebraska. The snow is falling in large flakes. The high winds have decreased visibility to the point that Officer Brown can't tell the highway asphalt from the ditches on either side of the road. His radio squeals. His captain on the other end of the radio just announced they are closing the Highway 385 at Alliance and at Chadron. No one will be allowed beyond the roadblocks. Sargent Brown is ordered to stop all vehicles caught in the sixty mile stretch of road. They will have to spend the night in a farmhouse along the highway. Fourteen people will be rescued from the freezing temperatures and deep blowing snows of Nebraska. Eighteen lives will be forever changed. Will they survive the blizzard? How will their personal lives effect the rest of the people staying in the little farmhouse? How would you cope with fourteen strangers in your home for the night? About the author: Clare Hulseman McCullah was raised in Chadron, Nebraska. She graduated from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.
