Ce livre contient des traités philosophiques, des lettres et des textes divers écrits par ces deux penseurs. Leibniz était un philosophe allemand qui a développé une théorie de la connaissance basée sur la notion de monade. Foucher de Careil était un critique littéraire et un philosophe qui s'est intéressé notamment à la philosophie de Leibniz.
