Paradigm of Simias

This book is a contribution to the scholarship on the reception of Hellenistic poetry and to the study of ancient ¿technopaegniä (i.e. playful poetry) and their lasting influence on European culture. The volume discusses the Hellenistic scholar-poet Simias of Rhodes, the Roman experimentalist Laevius, Constantine the Great¿s panegyrist Optatian Porfyry, the transformation of the model in Byzantium and its triumph in Neo-Latin Jesuit education.
