POEMS OF ENDEARMENT AND MORE

Om POEMS OF ENDEARMENT AND MORE

The touching account of a Filipino Physician, a pioneering woman, with over 59 years in the medical field and who recently retired after 54 years of practice as an OB/GYN practitioner. Poems of Endearment is an anthology of poems derived from 4 of her books - the others being prose and short stories. She has outlined 5 chapters all of which poems are especially selected to highlight the chapters titles. Dr. Enriqueta Mayuga arrived in America in 1963, spent 7 years of OB/GYN training in various hospitals in various states, and realized after all her travels that she was not alone in her pain and her experiences of injustice and inequality. In this book as clearly written, she has emerged as one who feels very blessed to live at the ripe age of 84 and able to discern the whole aspect of man's inhumanity or cruelty to each other. She realized that virtue and vice are colorblind. As Dr. B. Gloria Guzman Johanessen has written in the Introduction, "This poetry book will enthrall the readers to look at their world in its various structures and contradictions. The themes encourage personal reflection on the beauty of life when it is guided by faith, love, and perseverance. While each chapter introduces particular ideas and arguments, some are intertwined with other themes which serve to strengthen or highlight the complexity of the human experience."
