Om Ray Howard-Jones
The first substantial, fully illustrated monograph exploring the life and work of Ray Howard-Jones (1903-1996), an outstanding Welsh female artist once renowned yet now unfortunately neglected. Associated particularly with the Second World War in south Wales, the spectacular Pembrokeshire coast and exceptional mosaic murals in Cardiff and Edinburgh, each period of her life and work is covered in-depth through chronological chapters. Beginning with her progressive upbringing in Penarth and at the London Garden School (1903-20), followed by her time at from the Slade (1921-25) through to her later years, during which she spent increasing amounts of time on the Pembrokeshire coast and was the subject of two significant Welsh Arts Council retrospective touring exhibitions, the book explores the life and legacy of an artistic talent deserving of further appreciation and of being returned to the public consciousness.
