Reclaiming the Space

- Conchas y Cafe Zine; Vol. 6, Issue 1

Om Reclaiming the Space

Gathered in this zine is the writing and artwork created by participants of DSTL Arts's Conchas y Café creative writing classes for adults. Through poetry and short fiction, drawings and photo composition, these workshops empower participants as the artists they are, helping them develop new skills in storytelling. The theme for Conchas y Café Zine; Volume 6, Issue 1: Reclaiming the Space is "Our Voice, Our Place." Through poetry and writings that focus on articulating the voice of the individual and their community, our poets and writers explore issues that most affect them, now and historically. This includes a critical view of our society and the current state of our world. Deeply influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and the social unrest of 2020, this collection is an insightful chronicle of our collective experience as a community of historically-marginalized people.
