Rethinking the Coordinate-Subordinate Dichotomy

This study argues that the domain traditionally covered by `coordination' and `subordination' in English can be neatly subdivided into four distinct construction types which differ in the grammatical encoding of speaker-attitude and speaker-interlocutor interaction.
