Fourteen-year-old Samantha spends her days exploring the shallow reef behind her island home. With her world locked in a battle against rising seas, scientists deploy genetically modified corals to rebuild reefs and protect the coastline. No one expects the reefs to be a hotbed of evolution, but they are.
The year is 2049. Climate change threatens the extensive reef system, endangering the emerging species of intelligent octopus known as The Nest. Terrifying storms wreak havoc and decimate coastal cities. Samantha and her team work to help the octopuses survive in the face of devastating damage to the reef from a hurricane.
