It is the year 2051. A group of strangers are brought together to play a new virtual reality videogame, a game so
realistic they don't always know they're playing it. The point of the game? To escape, before dehydration kills their real world bodies. But life is never that simple. The players must face orcs, gangsters, the insidious lure of suburbia, ghosts, zombies, the gods of Voodoo and an earthquake that destroys an entire country.
It gets worse. Their world is shaken to its core by hundreds of nuclear explosions, battleships stolen by a madman destroying their American creators. Radiation mutates all animal life: beavers, wolverines, even humans, some of whom change beyond recognition. Gods walk the earth and time travel becomes not a dream but an obligation as they visit the age of Jesus. How else could they fix the spaceship?
And always, they walk in the shadow of the Cybermancer...
