Om The Emperor's First 13: A Story of The Chinese Zodiac
Folktales are the foundation of ancient cultures. They were the stories that attempted to explain why things happened, or tried to convey lessons that needed to be learned. It was this oral tradition and intimate experience that brought people together in the spirit of both education and entertainment. Shengxiao jinian, literally "born resembling the standard year," refers to the Chinese Zodiac. There are many versions of this classic folktale with no particular adaptation being more authentic than the other. Depending on who told the story, different parts were often emphasized or reinvented. This version of the grand race to claim an honorary year within the Asian lunar calendar features an unsung animal - the cat. There is wonder at every moment and wisdom at each animal's finish.
