After their tryst by the Moon Pool, Selene Viper and Xiuhcoatl had no idea what fate had in store for them, but the birth of a son after such happiness is a cause for alarm. When Tonauac sends Xiuhcoatl to Europe to do his duty and remove the child for the sake of balance, the task cannot be completed and so an alternative is arranged. This child, Xochipilli, must come to the Tribe when he is old enough and take his father's rank as the lowest and ensure he never falls in love and the balance broken once more!

The three of them hold a wonderful kinship that holds out until the pressure of making the family happy and fighting their own hearts causes difficulties when Xochipilli can't help himself but fall for Tepin.
