The old king is on his deathbed. His son has returned from the province, and not everyone is happy about it. He lacks the sense of propriety his father insisted on, and his rule will bring drastic changes.
The old and conservative court is thrown into turmoil as the prince demands his subjects prove their loyalty by demonstrating their willingness to submit to his pleasure.
A lusty Lord Chamberlain and his wife enlist two ladies, the sisters Glenda and Gala, in their cause. The women are married to older nobles but soon find themselves deep in a battle of intrigue and increasingly strange bedfellows.
And the king's consort represents another force.
As the politics of lust shift the balance of everything, and matters of state move into the bedroom, Glenda and Gala learn to enjoy playing by the new rules. Their old-guard husbands are backing a losing side, but they aren't willing to stay mounted on old war horses when there are many willing stallions to ride.
