The Quirky Girls Club

Om The Quirky Girls Club

A book for high school girls with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ¿ The Quirky Girls Club is a book about three girls with Autism Spectrum Disorder who struggle in their transition to high school and about the support they give each other. Though they do struggle with the changing world of being a teenager, they use their strengths and friendship to flourish. Autism Spectrum Disorder in girls is different and often more subtle than in boys. As such it is often missed in primary school and not recognised or diagnosed until the transition to high school. At this stage, the social world of girls gets more complicated, and ASD girls struggle with group dynamics, changing social rules, dating, and schoolwork. They struggle with the demands of complex social rules, the more challenging academic work, and increasing demands on them to organise themselves in the transition to becoming young adults. In my experience as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, I am always heartened by the good outcome of teenagers with ASD. They find their niche, find their tribe, and use their superpowers to be successful as young adults.
