Om THE STEM NIGHT
Mr. Gipson's class is hosting STEM Night at the elementary school. STEM stands for
science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Niya's parents; Mr. Pierre ,who works with
computer technology, and Mrs. Jaxon-Pierre, who is a nurse, will be teaching the students and
parents about their careers. Her brother Tyler, who is about to graduate from college, will be
teaching about civil engineering. Hana will show the students an experiment she's doing with her
dad who is a scientist. Other students will participate and interact with all of the technology the
professionals brought, and learn how their careers work.
STEM Night is a part of the Culture Kids series, which differs from any other children's
books series, is a multicultural rhyming series that features children of many different races and
ethnicities who are in the same class! The children's ethnicities are from Caucasian and
European, African American, Jamaican, Nigerian, Asian, Indian, Vietnamese, and a few children
are multiracial such as a student who comes from a family of Louisiana Creole heritage and
another who is Black and Chinese.
Mr. Gipson is a fun, funny, and phenomenal African American elementary school teacher
who encourages his class to participate in discussions and ensures that everyone feels that they
can express themselves and has a voice that will be heard. Throughout this book, each students
tells what he or she likes, and which STEM career they would like to have.
Mr. Gipson begins by introducing himself and telling everyone what the students and
professionals will be doing. The book takes place in the school auditorium. Everyone is excited
to see all of the technology and meet the guests, who have careers that range from working in
hospitals and offices to animals in the wild.
STEM Night is an in depth and rhyming book that teaches students about different STEM
careers. It is a fun story with illuminating illustrations that takes the reader into an experience of
STEM for doctors, nurses, scientists, computer careers, architects, engineers and more. This is a
great journey to take through a book.
Children will learn how these careers work, and which major they should choose in
college
Readers can benefit from this book as they are exposed to the different STEM careers,
some of which are common and some that they will just be learning about for the first
time.
This book provides an enlightening learning experience for both children and adults! Come and
take the journey of STEM Night with Niya's Family, Mr. Gipson's class and others.
