This Is My Mountain

Daniel Powell grows up traveling through Latin America, often getting into trouble with his brother, Jake.
That trouble follows him to Houston, where he is sent to jail in 1994, and Jake is the only one who says he will stick by him - a promise he breaks.
Daniel hopes his time in jail will be short, but the sheriff confronts him with his girlfriend's statement and asks for a confession.
Instead, Justice says, "I forced Crystal to come along. She didn't want to, but she was scared of me. She's a good girl, you know, wanted to help a guy like me out, turn me around."
Crystal, however, chooses to do the time with her man, and there is nothing he can do to stop her. With foolish loyalty, she wins his heart and pride completely.
Daniel learns a lot in the county jail, which is a staging ground, a stepping stone - the same way the Boy Scouts prepared him for the Marines. Things will get worse before getting better.
