First published in 1898, this is a compendium of letters written by the explorer Henry Morton Stanley during his travels to Bulawayo, Johannesburg and Pretoria. Recalling his impressions of industry, commerce, and social and political issues, he lends a revealing insight into colonial South Africa in the late nineteenth century.
