Two Women, Two Stories

Two women from vastly different worlds face the challenge of growing up in a society that rejects them and devises strategies to overcome. In Apallona an unwanted child experiences eviction, abandonment, the austere closeted environment of a monastery and bullying at her origins. Her longing for deep friendship and to uncover her past is accompanied by a deep-seated fear and loathing of men and a compulsion to engage in deception. My Body and I is a candid, honest appraisal of the author's own upbringing in dealing with her body image, a complex struggle for identity. Key milestones along the way reveal her inner tension and anguish, but also a fierce resolve to accept herself through teenage years and into adulthood.
