Om Who Am I?
Who am I?: The Journey Towards Decolonisation
The planet Toko was once home to a thriving civilization with a steady economy and system of local governance. But over a hundred years ago, everything changed with the arrival of an alien species. These extraterrestrial colonisers imposed their language, Kukua, onto the Tokoans, destroying their native language and culture in the process. Though most yielded to the pressure to assimilate, there were some who resisted. Coco, a 96-year old Tokoan from the country of Bocan, held firm in his refusal to let go of the mother tongue, Muuo. On the celebration of his 96th birthday, he gave an impassioned speech about the importance of reclaiming the Tokoan identity by reviving Muuo. His insights captured the imagination of two Tokoan teenagers seeking to understand their history.
In this book, we will delve into what life was like before the aliens came, chronicle the devastating impacts of colonisation on language, culture and development, and explore what steps can be taken for the next generation to recover their sense of self. The colonial era engendered an identity crisis that poses the essential question "Who Am I?" This book will argue that by rediscovering their roots and restoring native institutions and language, Tokoans can begin to heal and thrive once more. Join us as we follow the journey towards decolonization.
