Only days after auditioning for a walk-on part in EastEnders, Jessie Wallace was called back and asked to try for a major role in the newest family to grace the famous Square, the Slaters. To her astonishment, she won the character of Kat Slater and promptly passed out in the street. It was the beginning of a meteoric rise to fame.
