Om Erie St. Diner
Why did I call this Erie St. Diner? Two reasons. The food and the ambiance. Diner food is simple and comforting. It's not pretentious. It's family stuff. Think about walking into a diner. If you're a local, the waitress knows your name, your family and your pickup truck. She greets you with a smile and brings your usual - coffee or soda or juice. She asks about your sick aunt or shares a joke. You're family. Even if you're not a local, she makes you feel welcome. A diner is open early and closes late. You have a favorite place to sit and you know the daily special. Portions are generous and you leave with a full belly and contented spirit.
Our house isn't a diner, but we kind of try to operate along those lines. Early or late, family and friends are welcome and we try to feed people spirit and body. A meal shared with people you love can go a long way towards healing wounds and making hardships seem smaller.
The recipes in this book are easy. It's just kitchen-table family food. Jesus made a point about communion. He said, "do this in memory of me". He is our family and we are His. There's a deep spiritual connection between sharing food and time together as a family. You are nourished in body and soul. God is there and you feel His provision in your life.
