Corruption and organised crime are two notions that sound familiar to everyone, but no one can give us a precise definition. In popular culture, organised crime refers to the Italian mafia, enshrined in films, while corruption always seems to us to be linked to public service, bribery and politics. Indeed, in some respects, popular culture's idea of corruption and organised crime is close to reality. In order to fight against this Manichean view of the two terms, international organisations have been trying for a long time to develop, help, encourage and push for common definitions of organised crime and corruption at the international level.
