17 July 1919 - Bettys Tea Rooms, one of Harrogate's best-known businesses, opened its doors to the public for the first time.14 December 1926 - Agatha Christie, who had mysteriously vanished eleven days earlier from her home in Surrey, turned up alive and well at the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate.
