Om Jump Back -
JUMP BACK is that rare book nowadays: The tale of a happy childhood. Janet Goodman Gilmore lived in a wonderful little rowhouse in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane during the golden years that followed the end of the Second World War. Brand new in 1949, the neighborhood's homes were what World War II vets had dreamed to own someday once the war ended. And when it did, they took off their field packs, moved into their dream homes and started families of their own.
The heroes of the war became gentler heroes to their wives, children, and friends. From a child's point of view, it was a wonderful, and simpler, time and place. Building playhouses, setting up tiny swimming pools, having catches, putting on plays and circuses, building snow forts in the back yards.
It was a unique time, Janet Gilmore remembers, and one that may never come again.
