As a young island girl growing up in Trinidad with eight siblings, Anna never thought she would leave behind the love and beauty of a simple life to pursue economic opportunities or what some might call the American Dream. Being away from her children for five years and working in Chicago as a home aide, Anna knew this would be the only way to provide and give them a chance at educational and financial success. While learning to gain her new independence with one goal in mind, Anna and her youngest daughter Coleen both struggle with thoughts of a strained relationship after time lost. Not realizing they have more in common than they think, Coleen, on her own, tries to find her independence and purpose in her new home of Brooklyn.
