Om Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome (syndrome X or insulin resistance syndrome) includes an accumulation of metabolic abnormalities that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus. At present, there is a marked incidence of this syndrome with a tendency to increase due to the lifestyles of modern society. A prospective descriptive observational study was carried out with the purpose of characterizing patients with metabolic syndrome in 59 patients with diagnostic criteria of this entity according to criteria established by the NCEP ATP¿¿¿¿ We used variables such as: age, sex, skin color, measurements, personal pathological history, blood chemistry determinations and imaging tests. Of the patients, 50.8% presented 3 of the components of the syndrome.
