New Directions in Gender and Religion

This book examines the changing position of women in African religious movements and the ways in which women have broken through in the religious sphere to rise to leadership in spite of problems created by gender. The rate of proliferation of these religious movements and their impact on the health delivery system and on national development are of key importance and show that women in spiritual churches are gaining strong social popularity and pervasive influence in Ghana through their role as founders, religious leaders, healers, and custodians of culture.
