Praise God (Laudate Deum)

Om Praise God (Laudate Deum)

Pope Francis once again addresses the world with an urgent appeal for climate protection: In "Laudate Deum", the follow-up letter to "Laudato si", he calls for rapid measures against global warming and speaks out against climate change denial. Over time, Francis has realized that we are not reacting sufficiently while the world that surrounds us is crumbling and perhaps facing a deep turning point. He posits lasting damage to the oceans as "one of the many signs that the other creatures of this world have stopped being our companions along the way and have become instead our victims", feeding the "technocratic paradigm" which he described in Laudato si'.In the letter, which is around 8,000 words long, the Pope argues mostly in scientific, political and economic terms. Pope Francis is clear that we all have a role to play, pressurising the sources of power and demanding change. He calls us all to be involved and particularly urges that COP28, the next round of important UN negotiations on climate change, needs to be a historic event, with binding forms of energy transition. For the sake of the future of our children we must take action.
