The right to citizenship in prison

Om The right to citizenship in prison

This work analyzes the right to citizenship in prison in Sergipe and discusses how citizenship can be a mechanism for the realization of human rights. The work is the result of the experience of the research project entitled "Profile of Prisoners in the State of Sergipe and Identification of Public Policies for Former Prisoners", funded by the Sergipe State Foundation for Research and Technological Innovation (FAPITEC) between 2012 and 2013. This study was carried out using the qualitative-quantitative method, using data provided by the Public Security Secretariat, as well as information gathered by applying questionnaires in Sergipe prisons. The results made it possible to conclude that the conditions in Sergipe's prisons are inadequate for the prison population and that the democratic component is indispensable if there is to be a change in the way the Penitentiary System is viewed and, consequently, if public policies on social rights are to be drawn up.
