This keepsake edition of The Book of Proverbs was taken from the King James translation of the Bible. The King James Translation is a masterwork of style, and the most important book in the English language, it has been the driving force in shaping the English-speaking world for hundreds of years.
The Book of Proverbs is an example of the Biblical wisdom tradition, and raises questions of values, moral behavior, the meaning of human life. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom is praised for its role in creation; God acquired it before all else, and through it he gave order to chaos; and since humans have life and prosperity by conforming to the order of creation, seeking wisdom is the essence and goal of the religious life.
