GG was once a girl! Can you believe it? She climbed trees, beat up boys and even her sister. Teachers wrote on her report card, "behavior needs to improve." The doctor paid her to stop screaming. GG had another name then. Walking to school, she dodged big tumbleweeds, prairie dog holes and deep snow. Her grandmother made a house of grass and dirt. There was no bathroom and no electricity. In the middle of Nebraska, in the middle of the United States, almost 100 years ago, GG was a girl called Caroline Mae.
